Hanging with Daddy

Dinner at John & Deb's

On Sunday we went to dinner at John and Deb's house. We met in child birth class at the hospital and we have so much in common- they too have a horse farm with two horses, three dogs, cats and a brand new baby- Jack. Their farm is gorgeous and we love having them to hang out with and the food was wonderful! Sorry I didn't take any pictures of the girls... I'm sure there will be play dates in the future- but aren't the men and their babies too cute?

Introducing Our Newest Addition

Nope, not Sophie. This is our brand new Kubota Zero Turn Mower. After demoing it when our riding mower broke down, we couldn't resist- mostly because it cuts our mowing time in HALF (from 5 hours to about 2 1/2). After all, we'd rather spend our time with the baby. This mower is like a sports car- responsive and super comfy. We realize this might not be as exciting to most of our friends and family as it is to us-- but we are in love!

Irises, Peonies & Mountain Laurel

We spent most of the holiday weekend working on the farm and the gardens. Late spring is my very favorite time of year in Virginia- the weather is perfect (70 and breezy) and my favorite flowers are in full bloom. Check out our mountain laurel, irises and peonies.... They are amazing this year! Also, note Sophie was doing her part in the garden....

Is that a SMILE?

Smiling at Two and a Half Weeks? Did I also mention she is walking and talking already?

Sophie's First Dress

Sophie wore a dress yesterday since her cord scab was bothering her... and because who needs an excuse to wear a pink dress! Note booties knitted by Nannabel. I love them!

KUNTA KINTE!!!

Even Good Babies Have Moments

Sometimes when she works herself up into a frenzy for no apparent reason we just giggle. Life is SO HARD Sophie!

Spring at Penny Lane Farm

Welcome to Spring at Penny Lane Farm! We have had a ton of rain and everything looks so amazing we thought you would all like to see it. Besides our new baby, this farm is our pride and joy. We did all the flowers in pink and white this year in honor of Sophie. As you can see, at one week old, she is already a barn rat and helps us do chores in her Moby wrap and Baby Bjorn carrier.

Mom & Sophie

I might be a bit biased, but am pretty sure she couldn't be any cuter.

Diaper Rash

Miss Sophie already has a mean diaper rash so we spent a lot of the day airing out with no diaper (FUN!) while daddy cut all the grass with a fancy kubota zero turn mower he demoed. We loved the mower- it cut the mowing time in half. I'll let you all know if we decide to make the big purchase.

Sleeping with Sophie

This is our main activity with little Sophie. I love the one with Ollie and the whole gang- the baby and all three dogs! For those of you who were wondering- the dogs are (obviously) doing great with Sophie. They all seem to love her and are very sweet, although a bit needy and under foot- which is understandable. Last night Sophie slept from 12:30 to 8:50 waking up twice to eat, but otherwise was out peacefully in her bassinet. We are really getting some good sleep time at night and during the day- and we are hoping it continues!

Sophie at home enjoying all the creature comforts

Sophie is doing great and mom and dad are enjoying watching as she becomes more engaging by the day. We enjoyed a wonderful mother's day....Briana's first! Sophie has enjoyed meeting all of her cat and dog brothers and sisters.......only ones left are the horses. Dogs and cats seem to be curious and everyone has been very gentle especially Ellie. Mom and dad are still trying to convince Sophie that night is the time for sleeping but overall we are all adjusting quite well.

Preparing to Go Home

Sophie and Briana came home on Friday, 9 May 2008. Mom and baby are doing great and we are enjoying every moment of this experience. We are slowly calling friends and family and are thankful for all of the support we are receiving. By the way the nurses couldn't stop commenting on how cute Sophie's little outfit was...thanks Bia.
